Bangalore: The great mystery of who actually were responsible for the vandalising of over 50 places of worship and prayer, overwhelmingly Christian, spread over 10 districts in Karnataka in September 2008 remains unresolvedThe Commission of Inquiry, headed by B.K. Somasekhara, set up on September 19, 2008 investigated 57 incidents of attack, all but one of them on Christian places of worship and prayer. The maximum number of such attacks investigated by the commission took place in Dakshina Kannada (32), followed by Davangere (10), Chikmagalur (4), Udupi (4), Bangalore Rural and Urban (3) and Belgaum, Bellary, Chickballapur and Kolar (one each). Though no was killed, many were injured. Loss to church property, in some cases described by the commission as “colossal”, was extensive.  read more »
