Malkangiri - Orissa: A church under construction in a village called Bendoguda in Malkangiri district in Orissa, was destroyed by the Hindu radicals on the midnight of June 28th 2011. This place comes under the Block and the Police Station of Malkangiri. About 25 families of believers belonging to the Koya Tribals were jointly trying to build a place of worship from their meager savings on a small piece of land donated by a believer called Aitu Podiami (56).
The same group of Koya believers were also attacked in November 2010 by the Hindu radicals and on the intervention of GCIC and the Sub Collector, a peace agreement was drawn between the communities. But unfortunately the Hindu radicals have breached the terms of agreement to create communal disharmony. We understand that the village Sarpnch is also pressurisung the Koya believers not to complain to the police about the incident. The GCIC has taken up the matter with the Orissa Government demanding compensation and protection to the Koya believers.
