Depriving sleep is violation of fundamental rights: SC

New Delhi, Feb 23, 2012, (PTI)
The Supreme Court today took strong objection to the Delhi Police's mid-night crackdown on yoga guru Ramdev's supporters saying unlawfully depriving a person from sleep is a violation of his fundamental rights.

"Deprivation of sleep has tumultuous adverse effects. It causes a stir and disturbs the quiet and peace of an individual's physical state. A natural process which is inherent in a human being, if disturbed, obviously affects basic life.  read more »

Handshake with Michelle Obama was forced: Indonesian minister

London, Nov 10 (IANS)

An Indonesian minister, who was criticised by Muslims for shaking hands with the US First Lady Michelle Obama, said on Twitter that the skin-to-skin contact was forced.

Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring was among the dignitaries of the host country to greet US President Barack Obama and his wife as they arrived in Jakarta Tuesday.  read more »

Mohammed Hanish has directed the management of St. Philomina's School, Poonthura, to immediately convene a meeting of the executive committee of the school Parent-Teacher Association to discuss the alleged incident in which a Class VII girl was harassed for wearing a headscarf (mufta) to school.  read more »
