Thu, 01/01/2009 - 7:22pm 5 killed, 20 injured in New Year day blasts in Assam-India

Guwahati : Five people were killed and at least 20 wounded, six of them critically, when serial explosions rocked busy market places and other areas in Assam's main city of Guwahati on New Year's day on Thursday.
A police spokesman said two of the blasts took place in crowded markets, while another took place in a roadside dustbin.
"Five people have died so far and 20 have been injured according to preliminary reports," a senior Assam police official said.
The first blast took at Birubari area in a garbage bin, injuring two people. The blast took place around 4.30 pm.
Two other near simultaneous blasts occurred at the Bhootnath and Bhangagarh markets in the city.
"The nature of the explosives is not immediately known although it appears to be some improvised explosive device," the police official said. He said in two of the instances, bombs were planted on parked bicycles.

In of our church in Chikmagalur, this morning the Sunday Service was interrupted by the Local Polic men. Early morning when Sunday School Studnets came to the church, police did not allow the church to be open and told the Sunday School students go back home.
Police men said that this church needs permission to conduct the worship service. The pastor of this church reside in a place called Koppa, th other Pastor in Charge was out of station. Finally when the pastor arrived Chikmagalur, police asked him to come Police Station and show the documents of Church Registration and other paper. So the pastor went to Police station, but the concerned police officer was not there, finally pastor had to go where he was and gave a copy of the registration documents.
