Six armed men broke into the bishop’s residence in Baruipur in West Bengal today, ransacking rooms before making off with cash and valuables worth about 50,000 rupees (US$ 1,137).They also assaulted the vicar general, Jesuit Father Anil Mitra, who suffered minor injuries.
Bishop Salvadore Lobo of Baruipur is presently in Europe and is expected to return next week. Baruipur is some 30 kilometers south of Kolkata, the state capital.  read more »

ISTANBUL, TURKEY (Worthy News)-- A Turkish court on Friday, June 4, charged a Turkish man with murdering a Roman Catholic bishop -- the latest in a series of violent attacks against the country's tiny Christian minority.

The 63-year-old Bishop Luigi Padovese, the pope's apostolic vicar in Anatolia, was resting at his summer house in the port city of Iskenderun, on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, when he was stepped by his driver, said Sister Leonora, the bishop's secretary.  read more »
