LUCKNOW - A group of shopkeepers in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district shaved a 12-year-old boy’s head, blackened his face and paraded him naked through a village after accusing him of stealing a pair of slippers, police said Wednesday.

Shopkeepers in the Sadar locality in Sitapur Tuesday evening beat Kundan suspecting him of having stolen a pair of slippers from a footwear shop.

“While Kundan was sitting near the footwear shop, the shopkeepers caught him and started beating him. After tonsuring his head and smearing his face black, an injured Kundan was paraded naked and then thrown into a drain,” district police chief Pritendra Singh told IANS by phone.

Kundan is undergoing treatment in the district hospital, he added. Sitapur is 80 km from here.
