A US national has accused the Madhya Pradesh police of conducting an illegal search of personal belongings of her 20 female students in Umaria district Thursday on alleged conversion charges.Nicole Jaquis in her complaint to American embassy and other Indian agencies said police along with saffron activists carried out the illegal search of their premises on the false accusation that they were in the district on a Christian conversion mission.
“Police allowed unauthorized persons to enter the premises and conduct a search, including handling of undergarments, without a search warrant,” she said. The team was living at Santosh Dwivedi’s Rastriya Yuva Sangatan office, an NGO working towards non-violent society through Gandhian philosophical approaches and shared the building with another NGO for handicapped children.
Jaquis claimed that she was questioned at least five times by the local intelligence, CID and police.Archana Bahuguna, one of the victims, said the saffron youth along with police officials forced their entry into their premises and shouted anti-Christian slogans thinking that they were all Christians.
Director General of Police S. K. Rout said that investigation would be conducted into the matter.“We would take necessary action if anything wrong is found,” he said.
