Infringement upon the Fundamental Rights of Christians . Police Demand All Church Details in Chikmagalur!
Kadur- Chikmagalur (Karnataka): The police in Kadur, Chikmagalur District in Karnataka, have begun harassing the believers during the last two weeks though there are no complaints as such against any of the believers. They want all details about the believers in Kadur. And, if they fail to furnish the details immediately as demanded, strict measures would be taken against them. It looks similar to the case of the harassment of believers by another saffron government , the Madhya Pradesh Government. It is a subtle game very carefully being played by the saffron brigade against Christians through the police departments, wherever they are in power. We learn that the Police Sub Inspector Revanna of Kadur police station, has issued a notice to the Pastor in charge of Jesus Comes Full Gospel Church, Murthyhal, Kadur Town, on 17-8-2011, with a demand that he should furnish the following details about his church at the earliest.
1).Name of the Church. 2) The Property Records of the Church (with an assessment copy). 3) Registration Records of the Church. 4) Telephone Number and the Name of the Person in Whose Name it is registered. 5) Exact Location of the Church and whether the Church Building is a Rented One or Owned by the Church. (Relevant Records to be produced). 6) Names and Addresses of all the Office-bearers/ Trustees of the Church. 7) Whether there is a Bank Account in the name of the Church, if so, all those necessary details. 8) The Audit Report of the Church for the Current Year. 9) Details Regarding Days on which the Prayer Services are being held in the Church - Names with Addresses of all the Believers who attend the Prayer Services.
This exercise may look like a routine police work, and the police may also argue that it is only to give necessary protection to the hapless Christian believers in times of trouble. But a deeper analysis would make it abundantly clear that it is a definite case of an attempt to implement the hidden agenda of the Sangh Parivar. It is indeed a clear violation of the fundamental rights of Christians in the country to freely practice and preach the religion of their choice, as very much enjoined in our constitution. Interestingly, we learn that the intelligence department is also very much involved in this apparently innocent exercise, as an intelligence officer, one Mr. Eshwarappa, is also very much actively involved with what the Sub Inspector Revanna, has been trying to do. Perhaps they are only following the bidding from their higher-ups.
We also understand that prior to this notice, a notice as detailed below was sent by the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Kadur Police Station on 6-8-11.

Kadur has about 10 churches, 4 house churches and 6 with their own church buildings. During the last 10 years prayer services have been going on in all these churches very peacefully. The church memberships vary from church to church from 25 to 40 believers in each of the 10 churches, and the following pastors provide for their spiritual needs - Pastor Babu (37), Jesus Comes Full Gospel Church; Pastor Chandrashekar (35), Jesus Christ is Light Church; Pastor Krishna Naik (35) Yesukripalaya Church of MAF; Pastor Nagaraj Naik (28) Revival Church; Pastor Srinivas (27) Church of Gospel for Asia; Sister Devaki, Jesus Prayer Hall; Pastor Balraj (48) IPC Church; Pastor Shashikanth (40).
We understand that last year Sister Devaki and her Mother were arrested and detained in the Hassan Jail on the false allegation that they were forcibly converting Hindus to Christianity. The GCIC had intervened and helped them in getting them released from prison. Please pray for them.
