Prayer meeting disrupted in Kanakagiri , Karnataka

A mob of about 60 Hindu extremists allegedly from the Hindu Jagaran Vedike on 8 August disrupted a prayer meeting accusing the Christians of forceful conversion in Kanakagiri.

Our correspondent reported that at about 7:30 p.m., the extremists barged into the fasting prayer of Evangelical Church of India conducted by Pastor John Harris in a seeker’s home and stopped the meeting.

The unidentified seeker has been attending ECI church for more than a year and the meeting was held in their home on their invitation, reported Pastor Harris.

The extremists ordered the Christians to go outside where media persons were waiting. In front of the news people and photographers, the extremists started verbally abusing the Christians for their faith, asked them to stop all Christian worship meetings and claimed that the church was in the process of carrying out forceful conversion.

The Christians were taken to the police station where the extremists’ mob was pressurizing the police to arrest the Christians. They also demanded that all kinds of Christian activities be stop in the area.

The Police Sub Inspector took a written statement from the Christians not to conduct meetings in homes and also threatened that he will file a case against them in future if the incident is repeated.

The incident was published in local dailies.
