The installation of Mar George Alencherry, the newly elected head of the Syro-Malabar Church was held at Ernakulam St Mary’s Basilica on Sunday. Syro-Malabar Church Curia Bishop Bosco Puthur has presided over the installation ceremony.

Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, the Apostolic Nuncio to India, Major Archbishop Baselios Cleemis of Malankara Church, Cardinal Telesphore Toppo, former president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) and the 44 bishops of the Syro-Malabar Church were present at the ceremony. The representatives of priests and laity of Syro-Malabar dioceses and those of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly will participate in the ceremony. After the installation, the new Major Archbishop has preside over the rest of the Holy Mass.
