Surathkal - Mangalore (Karnataka): Mr. Adiveppa, a Christian in Surathkal, planned to have a Christmas dinner for some of his close church members at his residence at Mandapuri in Kodikkare of Surathkal near Mangalore. Accordingly, he invited a dozen of his friends who gathered at his residence on Christmas Day evening, Sunday, 25-12-2011 at about 8.30 pm. After exchange of pleasantries and a short prayer, they began their dinner. But to their utter shock their dinner had to come to an abrupt end.

Just as they were having their food, around 20 members of Hindu Jagaran Vedike led by a few hardcore activists attacked them with stones and huge wooden sticks. They began abusing the Christians using the filthy language and beat them up ruthlessly, including children and women, and also threatened to kill them. Many suffered head injuries and some of the goons deliberately hit even the women believers on their chests.
After these rabid radicals left the place, all the injured were rushed to the nearby hospitals. Joyson (27) whose left leg was fractured in the attack was admitted to Srinivasa Hospital at Muka, Pastor Suresh’s wife, Lata (29), has sustained chest injuries in the savage attack. Roshini (29), and Sr. Annamma who sustained head injuries had to be put a number of sutures. Deepak (23), has broken his nasal bridge in the attack. Most of them are admitted into the hospital and kept under observation. Others were given first aid treatment and sent home.
The police led by Inspector Bealliappa and SI Ramesh, with a few constables, as usual, arrived late and filed an FIR under lesser charges, and not as required under the sections - 18-60,143,147 ,148,448,504,323,324,rw149 or under other serious sections, as the violence was against women and children, who were also threatened to be killed.
According to our sources the brutal attack was carried out by the Hindu Jagaran Vedike under the leadership of some its hardcore activists like jagadish, Dayananda, Tejus, Prasanna and Sunil.
