Pope Benedict XVI is in England’s capital on the second day of a four-day visit to the country.According to cops, the men were between the ages of 26 and 50. They were arrested at a business in central London.Police would not reveal details on the threat, and authorities would not say if the men were British or divulge their nationality.But London's Telegraph reported the men are suspected Islamist terrorists from a variety of countries, including Algeria. The publication reported the men were arrested because they were planning to assassinate the pope.

Police said they received notice of a potential plot against the pope overnight, which resulted in the arrest of the men early Friday at 5:45 a.m. The men are currently being questioned and no charges have been filed.

Officers were seen searching the premises. No hazardous items have been discovered.

BBC reported the men’s ages are 26, 27, 36, 40 and 50 years old.

"Today’s arrests were made after police received information following initial inquiries by detectives. A decision was made to arrest the five men," according to a statement issued by the police force’s Counter-Terrorism Command, the BBC reported.

"Following today's arrests policing arrangements for the papal visit were reviewed and we are satisfied our current policing plan remains appropriate. The itinerary has not changed. There is no change to the UK threat level,” the statement added.

The pope is expected to meet with the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, head of the Anglican Communion on Friday in an effort to show unity in the divided Christian churches. He will deliver a speech to British politicians, businessmen and cultural leaders later in the afternoon
