Avoid semblances of syncretism: Pope

Pope Benedict XVI has urged the Indian Christians to avoid semblances of syncretism while they dialogue with people of other religions.“Your dialogue should be characterized by a constant regard for that which is true, in order to foster mutual respect while avoiding semblances of syncretism,” the pope on Monday told two groups of Latin Rite bishops from India, who are in Rome on their ad Limina visit.The pope reminded the prelates led by Cardinal Telesphore Toppo of Ranchi that the Christian commitment to live and to bear witness to the Gospel has distinct challenges in every time and place.“This is certainly true of your country, which is home to various ancient religions, including Christianity,” he added.The pontiff said Christian life in multi-religious societies always demands honesty and sincerity about one’s own beliefs, and respect for those of one’s neighbor.  read more »

Indian Christians Protest against Blasphemy law in Indo-Pak boarder

AMRITSAR: Hundreds of Indian Christians assembled at Indo-Pak international border at Attari on Saturday to demonstrate against the death sentence awarded to Aasia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian, for committing blasphemy.

The activists of Christian Front Punjab (CFP) from various parts of Punjab asked the Pakistani government to revoke its orders of capital punishment awarded to Aasia Bibi. They also urged the international community to press upon the Pakistan government to scrap its blasphemy law. The protesters said that the blasphemy law in Pakistan was misused to settle personal scores.  read more »
