
New Delhi, May 9 - A Member of Parliament Wednesday accused the Indian Navy of repeatedly barring Christians from praying at a sacred chapel on the Anjadip island, a few hundred metres off the coast in South Goa district.
Shantaram Naik told the Rajya Sabha that the 'attitude' of the Indian Navy officials was not right and in violation of a written contract between the state government and the naval authorities. read more »

Social activist Swami Agnivesh was assaulted at a public meeting here Thursday by a Hindu seer, angry at his alleged recent comments on the Amarnath shrine. The Mahant was later arrested.
The man slapped Agnivesh during the public meeting here, and was identified as Mahant Nityanand Das. He had taken umbrage at Agnivesh's recent comment that the Amarnath shivling was made out of artificial ice. Das had announced a reward of Rs.51,000 to anyone who would hurl a shoe at Agnivesh.
A mahant at a temple near Nadiad, Nityanand approached Agnivesh, who was with anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare at the public meeting here. As Agnivesh moved to shake hands, the mahant slapped him. Agnivesh’s turban was also knocked off and fell to the ground. read more »

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the election of Kodikunnil Suresh MP. The SC cancelled the ruling of Kerala High Court which rejected the election of Suresh who contested the polls from the Mavelikkara `reserved' constituency. The HC had stated that Suresh couldn't be treated as scheduled caste and issued the order after rejecting the petition submitted by his rival candidate RS Anil of CPI and other two voters. read more »
