Karnataka Chief Minister asks legislator to apologise to Christians

BELGAUM: Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday asked Khanapur MLA Prahlad Remani to apologize to Christians in writing for his derogatory remarks against them.
But Remani told reporters that he wouldn't apologize as he stood by whatever he said.

Remani, in his Independence Day speech, had allegedly called upon Hindus to weed out Christianity in the region, saying these were the seeds left by the British.

Yeddyurappa told reporters that he had already instructed all BJP legislators not to make any statement which would hurt the sentiments of minorities, especially Muslims and Christians.

He said Christians may have misunderstood Remani's statement. "I think they are reacting to media reports. However, I have told MLA Remani to apologize,'' he said.

Karnataka CM asks the MLA to apologize.

It is a gesture of courtesy and honesty form the part of the CM to rectify the
damage caused by a wayward MLA of the party. It seems like the MLA
is acting adamant, but the pressure from the CM, let us hope, will change
the MLA's attitude, and he will openly apologize to the Christians.
