Orissa Diary : Cuttack: The first phase hearing of Kandhamal Nun rape case finished. The next date for hearing is fixed to August 10 and 11. On the fifth day out of four witnesses, two were present and recorded their witness. In close door hearing at the Chamber of Cuttack District Judge Bira Kishore Mishra.
First the witness of the Cuttack Sadar SDJM Prasanta Kumar Das were recorded. On 5th January, the TI Parade conducted in Choudwar Jail by Cuttack Sadar SDJM Sri Das. Sri Das said Out of 9 accused father Chelen had failed to identify a single accuse. Concerned Nun could abale to identify two accused Kartik Pradhan and Santosh Patnaik.

The Nun expressed that on the incident Santosh pulled her Saree and slaped her. But She has not alleged rape against two accused. Further she has identified an under trial prisoner as accused.

Besides, the Cuttack Sadar SDJM, the witness of Forensic laboratory Scientific Officer Kabiraj Pradhan were recorded. Sri Pradhan Said that He went with the Police to the Spot of alleged rape but found no symbol of pulling and straining on the spot. After their witness the lawyers of accused Saura Chandra Mohapatra and Sarbeswar Behera cross examined them . After record of above two witness, the first phase hearing has been concluded. The next date for hearing is fixed to 10th and 11th of August.
Raikia:(Kandhamal) The First track court number 1 judge sovan kumar das acquitted 13 persons Laxmikant Mallik, Labe Pradhan, Lambodhar Pradhan, Kumuda Pradhan, Ranjita Mallik, Dwijabar Pradhan, Balaram Mallik, Simanchal Pradhan, Kirti Chandra Mallik, Surasen Pradhan, Khageswar Mallik, Minku Pradhan and Ttrinath Pradhan due to lack of evidence from the case of torching the house of Nelson Naik of Telengia village occurred on 30th September, 2008 .

Similarly The Additional sessions judge of fast track court number 2, C R Dash aquited 10 accused Sarat Bhoi, S.Kartik Patra, Santosh Sahoo, Sanjaya Sahoo, Manoj Sahoo, Lingaraj Naik, Narayan Naik, T.Gopal Raj and Sanjaya Patra due to lack of evidence from the case of torching the house of a woman at Totasahi village on 29th August 2008
