GCIC welcomes- Myanmar Junta's release of Aung San Suu Kyi after 15 years house arrest

Global council of Indian Christians(GCIC) welcomes decision of Myanmar military
Junta's decision to release the icon of Pro democracy leader Aaung San Sui.

Military authorities in Burma are believed to have sanctioned the release of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi after spending 15 of the last 21 years under house arrest.

The ruling military junta - which is thought to have secured the majority of seats in Burma's first election for 20 years - has not commented on reports of Ms Suu Kyi's rumoured release.'There is no law to hold (Suu Kyi) for another day,' her lawyer, Nyan Win, informed.
'Her detention period expires on Saturday and she will be released.'
Ms Suu Kyi's expected release could, however, depend on whether the Burmese military junta decides to impose conditions.Ms Suu Kyi's lawyer added the Oxford-educated leader would not except a conditional release if this meant she would be precluded from engaging in political activity.
'[Her release] must be unconditional,' Nyan Win informed members of the press. ' As we all know, she has never accepted limited release in the past.'
Reports of the democracy icon's release come after a state media announcement on Thursday that the pro-junta political party had secured a majority in both houses of Parliament in last Sunday's elections.
The partial results showed the Union Solidarity and Development Party had won 190 of 219 constituencies reported in the 330-seat Lower House and 95 of 107 seats in the 168-seat Upper House.
Top members of the ruling junta were among those who won seats, including Prime Minister Thein Sein, who also heads the USDP.
