30 ruling BJP legislators failed to get visa to take part in sixth world Kannada convention of Akka in New Jersey, US.
The legislators, including Belur Gopalakrishna, Abhay Patil, Seema Masuti, had applied for their visas but their applications were rejected, forcing them to drop their plans to visit US
“We had applied for visa only for attending the Kannada convention and it has been rejected without citing any reason. Kanataka witnessed unprecedented attacks aginst Chistian eligious minoities in the recent past.
GCIC Sources said 32 legislators, including three ministers Renukacharya, Shivanagouda Nayak and P M Narendraswamy, got the visa and they have already left for the US to attend the convention being held from Sept 3 to 5.
Visa refusal for 30 BJP MLA's
When politicians utter nonsense against the minority Christian community
simply for political gains, they never realize the fact that we are living
at the internet age. Persecution of the minorities around the world
is being watched by various government and NGO agencies around the world.
The government of Karnataka took a very indifferent attitude towards
the deliberate attack on the Christian community, and none of the
BJP MLA showed his or her protest against the attacks.
Mr. Modi's visa was refused by the British government and U.S. government, strictly based on the fact that Gujarat gave a hard time to
the minorities, both the Muslims and Christians. Many influential people
from Gujarat tried to influence President Bush and his secretary of
State Ms. Condaliza Rice, but nothing was changed.
Politicians, please remember, though India has a minority Christian
population, the majority population of Christians around the world and
their governments are not going to tolerate that any more.
Please don't use religion for political mileage, because it will create
far-reaching consequences. It was very unfortuante that their visa
application was refused, and I hope and trust that the MLAs can get
visa someday to visit the U.S. Please make a clean image of
Karnataka as a state where the minorities are not persecuted.
